What it is
Amavasya is the thirtieth tithi, when the Moon is not visible. It ends one lunar month and opens the next (in the Amanta calendar).
Traditional significance
Amavasya is traditionally a day to remember ancestors (with tarpan or a simple prayer), to rest and to turn inwards before a new cycle.
