What it is
Buddha Purnima (Vesak) falls on the full moon of Vaishakha. Buddhists remember the Buddha’s birth at Lumbini, his enlightenment at Bodh Gaya and his parinirvana at Kushinagar.
Traditional significance
It is a day of meditation, kindness to all beings, simple offerings and reflection on the Buddha’s teaching of compassion and the middle path.
History and culture
Bodh Gaya, Sarnath and Kushinagar draw pilgrims from around the world. Many Hindus also honour the Buddha on this day.
A suggested practice

- Silently wish yourself: “May I be well. May I be at peace.”
- Extend the wish to someone you love, someone neutral, someone difficult, and finally all beings.

May all beings be well, including me.
Reflection question
